Board President

Rebecca Groenhuyzen

Education and Background

Rebecca grew up going to St. John’s Episcopal Church and School in McAllen, Texas. She has a previous Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Texas A&M University, but is currently completing her nursing degree online through the University of Texas at Arlington. She will be working in the NICU at Methodist Children’s Hospital after graduating.

Family

Her husband Adam and her met while attending Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and have been married for 5 years. She has two children: Ellie (4) and Oliver (2) that both attend St. Helena’s School. She has attend St. Helena’s Church and are involved in the Young Families Group and other ministries.

Why I am on the school board at St. Helena’s

Rebecca had a wonderful experience getting to be heavily involved in my church and school while growing up and I want to support that opportunity for other families. Rebecca loves the spirit, community, and play-based curriculum offered at St. Helena’s school and she is thankful for the opportunity to serve on the school board. 

Stefanie Nitschke

Education and Background

Stephanie pursued my love for education and graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Special Education. She taught for 7 years in NEISD. She taught PPCD for 4 years and then taught Kinder inclusion for 3 years.  Stephanie felt so blessed to join the St. Helena’s family in the summer of 2018 as the Minister for Young Families.

Family

My husband, James, and I were very blessed to welcome our first baby, Weston James, in November of 2018. 

Why I am on the school board at St. Helena’s

 My heart and calling is towards serving and lifting up young children as well as families.  I love being able to connect with children by inspiring them, teaching them about God and strengthening their family unit to grow and deepen in their faith.  St. Helena’s is a community that has been such a blessing for my family and continues to be for so many! 

Dawn Mclendon

Education and Background

Dawn has a degree in Elementary Education from McMurry University. Has taught in Northside ISD and Boerne ISD for 17 years in several elementary schools.  Then worked through Boerne ISD’s central office teaching teachers for three years. In the spring of 2005 she was called into ministry at St. Helena’s.  Dawn grew up at St. Helena’s and am now heading into my 17th year in ministry. She loves walking alongside children and teens on their faith journey. 

Family

She is married to her husband Pat.  She has two sons who both live in College Station.

Why I am on the school board at St. Helena’s

Dawn was on the original team that visioned our preschool so many years ago.  She has watched our school grow, bend, shape and thrive. Proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ in a church and school setting is her passion. 

Katy Stout

Education and Background

Katy Padilla Stout was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. She attended The University of Texas at Austin for her undergraduate degree and South Texas College of Law in Houston, where she obtained her J.D. She is a former educator of almost a decade and currently works representing families and children involved in the legal system.

Family

 She is happily married to her law school sweetheart and is a mother of 4 children ages 10-3 years old, two of which attend St. Helena’s Episcopal School.

Why I am on the school board at St. Helena’s

Her love of early childhood education and advocating for children are at the heart of everything she does.

Paul Johnson

Education and Background

Paul studied literature at the University of Texas San Antonio and for the last thirteen years has taught history and literature to eleventh graders at The Geneva School of Boerne.  He has been an active member of St. Helena’s for 11 years.  Paul has served on St. Helena’s church vestry.

Family

He is married to Erica and has a son and daughter.  Erica homeschools their children. 

Why I am on the school board at St. Helena’s

Paul has worked in Christian education professionally for fifteen years and believes it is incredibly important to foster schools that teach children to love God and love people.
